When you use “find your reps,” the address you type is sent to our server, which forwards it to the U.S. Census Geocoder to determine your district, then looks up the matching members in our own database. That request also carries your IP address, which our server uses transiently to rate-limit abusive lookups. Neither the address nor the IP is written to our application database— but this is not a claim that no record of the request exists anywhere: standard infrastructure-level access logs (the kind any host or CDN keeps by default) may retain request metadata like IP address independent of our application code, and the Census Geocoder is a separate service with its own logging under its own terms.

If you save your representatives, we store your congressional district and your representatives’ bioguide IDs and public profile info (name, party, photo) in your browser’s local storage — on your device only. The address you typed to find them is notpart of that saved record; it’s used only for the one-time lookup above. Saved reps never reach our servers, and you can clear them anytime from the homepage.

If you record how you’d have voted on a roll call, that choice is saved only in your browser’s local storage— not synced, not backed up, and never sent to our servers, included in any analytics event, or placed in a URL, query string, or request header. There are no accounts, so there’s nowhere for it to sync to. Clearing your browser data deletes it, and anyone using this browser profile can see it. We don’t sell data, we don’t build profiles, and we don’t require sign-in to use anything. We use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate, cookie-less traffic analytics — visits, pages, and referrers reported in the aggregate, with no individual tracking and no cookies or consent banner required. We don’t use session replay. Your recorded stances are never sent anywhere by us; your address is sent only for the one-time “find your reps” lookup described above — never to analytics, never for advertising, and never for anything beyond that lookup.

Three outside services process data on our behalf. Vercelhosts and serves the site (the CDN referenced above); it keeps standard infrastructure access logs (request metadata such as IP address) and processes the aggregate, cookie-less, non-identifying page-view analytics described in “No tracking of you” above. Supabasehosts our database, which contains only public congressional data (members, bills, votes) — no user data is ever written to it. The U.S. Census Bureau’s Geocoderreceives the address you type in “find your reps” for the one-time district lookup described above, under its own terms and logging.
